Mikes Thoughts

coffee and travel

In a few days we will go off to Sihanoukville on the bus. This is a trip really to go see a friend of my wife's. We will be staying outside of the city at Otres Beach. The beach is quite beautiful to me even with so many changes since I first visited in 2018. Part of the idea of this writing is to start by writing a little on moments leading up to the trip but also have a place to capture whatever things worthwhile and then put them on the blog. We still have a few days to go so the writing will just transition across the days as I like to do. This may be long. Or longer. I am never sure since I never know what it is I will write on, what photos I will want to use, or when I will actually get round to posting this and making it live.

For whatever reason, I enjoy writing these kinds of blog posts that go over days and the things I do in them. Its Saturday now so sitting here in the reasonable quiet of our house and enjoying the moments of not hearing the usual cacophony of a life being lived in Khmer style. Earlier today I walked this wonderful path from here to there and back again. North of the city and past the big hospital and then down side streets and back to downtown to have a mango shake and catch a tuktuk home. I always feel better walking downtown and finding a street I may know but that always feels completely unexplored. Sometimes I take photos and other times I don't. Today I loved the scenes by the river.

words to be written

Well decided to yet again change the blog hosting to free. I managed to complete the dns and the provider access to GitHub on my iPhone. I almost rule.

Now I sit with coffee and this. Words written. I decided to use render for the hosting. From my phone to GitHub to render. Just waiting for the ssl certificate to get to the done point. It works almost the same as netlify or vercel. All free. As long as I stay a hobbyist type. Cannot imagine ever being more.

So I think next thing will be my travel writing. We leave Wednesday. It takes all day on the van. We are going so my wife can see her friend primarily. I just tag along as the token barang.
